Prince Charles – Joining Gangs Is A Cry For Help

If you listen to all of it and hear it through, he is right.
There are not enough extracurricular school activities. Kids have so much energy and they need to channel it in a positive direction.
Prince Charles is brilliant. Such a wise man. His insights are right on the nose. His intentions are good, and his words ring true.
Between this and his book Harmony, my respect for him has increased a thousandfold.

Do YOU think the looters in England wanted to feel a sense of belonging and that is why they joined a gang?

    Marty says:

I think that’s quite true…we all long to belong somewhere. That is especially so when one is young. The kids who join gangs have not yet created the sense of identity, or the level of maturity, to know how to properly address that feeling. Add in a lack of resources, stable family, activities, etc. and I can understand in some ways how joining a gang would be the only way some kids would feel like they mattered somewhere.

It’s sad all over. Without jobs/self-sufficiency skills, folks are getting desperate.

Not out of touch at all Bee. I feel the same way. I think Prince Charles is just looking at how it all gets started. He’s not condoning their actions – he’s saying they need to have alternatives so that this kind of thing doesn’t happen.

I’m waaay out of the loop on this topic. I’ll have to watch the video when I get home (no YouTube at work). I’m sure he’s right though. Children need an outlet to spend their energies and it needs to be in a positive setting. The only issue is that most after school activities are being cut completely or reduced in budget. Soon there will be nothing left for children to attend. :(

I hope to keep our daughter active. She enjoyed her first year of softball this past year. We’ll probably check out a new sport this year for her. She’s interested in dance/gymnastics. Here’s to hoping we have the funds in our own budget to support her goals.

It’s such an important issue, Jess.
Glad you are getting your daughter engaged in softball and other sports she may be interested in down the road.
I will cross my fingers for you that you will have all the funds you want to support her goals:)

I was going to say we all have a basic need to belong somewhere…but I see Marty said it first. Totally agree with Marty on that.

If only they felt they truly belonged as an integral and valued part of their family, perhaps (and I say perhaps because there are always exceptions) this may have been lessened in severity and/or participation.

Also, thank you for your greeting yesterday. I appreciate it very much!
