So I found it.

24 hour manned, gate guarded community
Cul-de-sac street
Within an hour of a big city
Unobstructed view on one side of the property
Quiet neighbors
Level building pad.

(there’s no room for the shade garden I would have loved to have, but everything else is in place, so I accept that compromise.
After all, when I NEED to feel gardens, I can always go on vacation and spend a few days visiting one:)

We made an offer. The seller countered. We countered again. The seller accepted:)

The subsurface drilling for the geological tests two find out what kind of slab we need to have begins next week.
The neighbor’s is a 24″ matt slab, and he has a subterranean garage, so it is good news because he didn’t need any caisons.
By happy coincidence, he used the same meticulous structural engineer that I will be using.

Would like to have solar panels, a back-up generator in case of an emergency, and a roof system that catches the rainwater in holding tanks.

Found an incredible architect, Howard.
Isn’t that kind of serendipitious? The name Howard always reminds me of Howard Roark in The Fountainhead novel by Ayn Rand:)

Have equal confidence in the General Contractor I would like to use.

Want to build the master bedroom downstairs, and the two guest rooms upstairs.
Have a conceptual idea in my head already that would fit within the building envelope. Know where where each room should be plus the orientation (west, east, north, south), and the sizes for each room including exterior walls.

Want an AMAZING library/office with a bay window.

Found the guy who did some excellent etched & leaded glass ten years ago for me.

My former cabinetmaker who also does an outstanding job is still working. Would like him to do all the built-ins, and to also do coffered celinings in the family room and library/office.

It’s all falling into place, so nicely that it just feels RIGHT.

Am going to be really busy for quite some time.
Blogging will be scarce. I will pop in now and again, but it will be sporadic.
