The Fat Duck Discriminates Against Solo Travelers

Listen to THIS, prospective customers willing to shell out 180 pounds per person for lunch at The Fat Duck in Berkshire, UK.
180 pounds is equivalent to $290 dollars. Per Person.

I made a reservation for 2 people. My Mother can no longer come with me, so I will be ONE person for lunch.

The restaurant explicity states that you CAN NOT have one person only for lunch for financial reasons.
I called, explained, and said I would pay IN FULL for the second person on the reservation, but that I would be the only one actually seated.

The lady Lindsey who answered the phone REFUSED, and said if I didn’t have TWO PEOPLE physically there, it didn’t matter that I would be paying IN FULL for the two luncheons, they would cancel my reservation.

THAT IS APPALLING DISCRIMINATION
They are making the same amount of money and doing less work when they would only be serving ONE person rather than two people.

I called several months in advance to make this reservation, woke up at 1:00 a.m. my time in order to do so — and now this?!

And although I have dined at Fat Duck previously on my last trip to the UK, I will NEVER after this, dine there again.

And every single word out of my mouth for years to come will be to let everyone know I think THE FAT DUCK’s policy is wrong and that my personal opinion as a luxury traveler who thinks customer service matters, is that they should dine elsewhere at 3 Michelin Star The Waterside Inn or 2 Michelin Star Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons or 3 Michelin Star Gordon Ramsay RHR instead.

What The Fat Duck is appearing to do with this policy I think is to say without words ‘if you are single, divorced, widowed or traveling alone on business, you are not welcome to dine at The Fat Duck. In fact, as soon as you ask for a table for one, we shall tell you that there is no availability.’

HOW DARE THE FAT DUCK RESTAURANT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST SOLO TRAVELERS.
